Important information for people attending Darwin Local Court in coming weeks
Upgrades to the Darwin Local Court will mean people attending the court will need to enter via a side entrance for several weeks and allow extra time to access the building.
Court upgrades began this week and will continue until late June. The renovations will address security improvements, improved client conferencing space, slip-rated flooring, better police facilities as well as other enhancements to accessibility and function of the Local Court.
The largest body of work will commence from April 23 and during this time court users, staff and contractors will need to enter and exit the building via the Bennett Street doors, which are currently used as a fire exit.
Security will relocate to this entrance until the major works are completed, which are expected to take around a month.
During this time there may be delays in entering the court building, so those who are due to appear in court are urged to allow extra time during this period.
When the major works are complete the court entrance will again be located near the corner of Harry Chan Avenue and Cavenagh Street.
