LOCAL COURT OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY NOTICE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC REGARDING ALL BUSH AND CIRCUIT COURTS
The Local Court will not be coming to communities until after Easter (18 April 2022).
This affects these places.
Maningrida, Ramingining, Wadeye, Nhulunbuy, Wurrumiyanga, Galiwinku, Lake Evella, Daly River, Borroloola, Alyangula, Angurugu, Jabiru, Oenpelli, Numbulwar, Pirlingimpi.
Yarralin, Timber Creek, Mataranka, Ngukurr, Lajamanu, Kalkaringi, Barunga, Yuendumu, Papunya, Kintore, Mutitjulu, Arlparra, Hermannsburg, Ali Curung, Ti Tree.
Court is still on in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.
The reasons are:
- Many communities have asked the Court to consider not travelling now
- To keep community safer from Covid
- To help people stay home and travel less, so Covid does not spread as fast
- Some of the lawyers and justice workers must isolate too and there might not be enough people for the Court to operate
People who are in jail or who are arrested by the Police will still have their matters dealt with.
You can still ask the Police or the Court for a domestic violence order if you need one.
If you have Court in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek or Alice Springs, but cannot get there because you are in community, ring your lawyer or the Court.
Keep in touch with your lawyer or ring the Court to find out when you next must go to Court.
All bail rules continue but you do not have to report to the Police Station if that was one of your rules.
