NOTICE TO LEGAL PRACTITIONERS, POLICE, CORRECTIONS and COURT USERS REGARDING DEFENDANTS IN CUSTODY FOR PERIOD 21/01/2022 – 28/01/2022 AND JABIRU AND OENPELLI CIRCUIT

DEFENDANTS IN CUSTODY – DARWIN LOCAL COURT AND KATHERINE LOCAL COURT
The video appearance is excused of all defendants in custody for the Darwin and Katherine Local Courts who were appearing via AVL in the Directions Hearing lists of
Darwin: Friday 21/01/2022, Monday 24/01/2022 and Friday 28/01/2022
Katherine: Thursday 27/01/22

For any matter where it is essential the defendant appear Court via AVL, Counsel should email DLC.CriminalRegistry [at] nt.gov.au or Katherine.LocalCourt [at] nt.gov.au. If it is identified during the mention of the matter that the defendant needs to be brought to Court, the Judge may stand the matter in the list for later in the day for Corrections to arrange appearance if possible, or put the matter over to another day.
Defendants in custody in the general or hearing list should appear by video or brought to Court as required, unless the Court is notified by Corrections of an inability to appear and the first possible date the defendant would be able to appear. 

CIRCUIT COURTS – JABIRU AND OENPELLI 24 AND 25 JANUARY 2022
Jabiru Court list 24/01/2022
Jabiru will sit as usual at the Jabiru Court on the 24 January 2022.

Oenpelli Court list 25/01/2022
Travel to Oenpelli will not occur for the purposes of the Oenpelli Court sittings on 25 January 2022. The Oenpelli Court list will be managed from the Jabiru Local Court on 25 January 2022.
Defendants are not required to travel from Oenpelli but can attend at the Oenpelli police station to facilitate any mentions via teams or telephone.
All hearings listed at Oenpelli on 25 January 2022 are vacated and will be heard as a mention at Jabiru.
Leave is granted for appearances to Jabiru via Teams or telephone if this can be facilitated. If you require virtual appearance via Teams or telephone to Jabiru please complete the notification of virtual appearance to ensure the Court has the relevant information. If Teams can be facilitated a link will be sent as per the procedure outlined in the virtual appearance guide.
