Important information for those filing civil documents
On 2 December 2019 all Northern Territory Courts will have a new civil case management system called ‘Odyssey’.
Odyssey is a product of Tyler Technologies who are based in Plano, Texas in the United States. A team of configuration experts from Tyler have been based in Darwin since early 2017 working with our local court and tribunal subject matter experts.
Odyssey was successfully implemented at the Northern Territory Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NTCAT) in December 2017 and the Court civil implementation is another step on the road to the Northern Territory being the first completely digital jurisdiction in Australia. From December 2019 Courts will no longer be creating hard copy court files and Judges will be able to access files digitally from the bench and chambers.
During the first half of 2020 efiling will be introduced at NTCAT and in the civil jurisdiction at Courts. The configuration in the Courts’ criminal jurisdictions is expected to commence in early 2020 and will be ready by mid-2021. Once live, this will enable all criminal matters from apprehension through prosecution and finally to the Courts to be managed digitally and paperless.
A number of Court staff will be off-line for short periods of time in order to undertake the training during the month of October and November, 2019.
We ask that court users please exercise patience while we transition to the new system. Turnaround times are expected to eventually be greatly reduced once the new system goes live.
