LOCAL COURT OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY NOTICE TO LEGAL PRACTITIONERS, POLICE, CORRECTIONS and COURT USERS REGARDING PUBLIC HOLIDAY ON THURSDAY, 22 SEPTEMBER 2022
Thursday, 22 September 2022 has been declared a public holiday for a National Day of Mourning for Her Majesty the Queen. The Darwin Local Court will be closed.
Defendants should not be remanded, bailed or summonsed to appear on the above date.
DARWIN
General bail, summons and notice to appear matters
All matters for mention on Thursday, 22 September are adjourned by Chambers order to Friday, 23 September. If counsel wish to re-list a matter to a different date an application to relist should be filed with the Criminal Registry. All bail conditions continue.
In-Custody matters
An order has been made in Chambers vacating the listings on Thursday, 22 September for Defendants in custody. The matters have been relisted on Wednesday, 21 September. Defendants in custody are remanded until this date, relevant appearance as per the previous orders.
Mental Health Court matters
All matters listed in the Mental Health Court on Thursday, 22 September are adjourned by Chambers order to Thursday, 29 September. All bail conditions continue. Defendants in custody are remanded until the new date.
Hearing court matters
The matters listed for contested hearing on Thursday, 22 September are vacated and will be relisted to obtain a new hearing date. The Court is contacting the parties concerned. Any witnesses should contact the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to be advised of any new date.
Darwin Youth Justice and Family Matters Court (TCG)
All matters listed in the Care and Protection list on Thursday, 22 September are adjourned by Chambers order to Thursday, 29 September at 10am. All current orders on adjournment continue until that date.
Northern Circuit Court – Galiwinku and Nhulunbuy
The sittings at Galiwinku on Thursday, 22 September and Nhulunbuy on Friday, 23 September have been cancelled. The sittings in Nhulunbuy and Galiwinku on Tuesday, 20 and Wednesday, 21 September will proceed. All matters in the Nhulunbuy and Galiwinku sittings will be mentioned in a call-over in Darwin on Thursday, 15 September at 10am. Defendants are excused.
Extra sittings for Galiwinku are planned for December and January 2023.

Contested matters listed for hearing on Thursday, 22 September are vacated and relisted for call-over on Friday, 16 September at 9am.
General adult criminal matters
All other matters listed for Thursday, 22 September are vacated and relisted on Monday, 19 September at 2pm.
Defendants are excused if represented by a legal practitioner.
